4.1.1git47 Right-click on Trash folder includes "Empty trash..." which is an instant action; surprise! The ellipsis mislead me into assuming I would get a dialog or some other interaction with maybe some options/information. Ellipses probably should never appear unless the user is presented with something to confirm/change. Trash is trash; but I lost all evidence of messages with dates in the future.
The ellipsis is there because there is an option, "Ask before emptying trash", on the Other/Miscellaneous page of the preferences, which is turned on by default. You have turned this option off at some point.
My point is that the ellipsis in this situation is not indicative of what is expected to happen; the ellipsis should not be there in this case. Getting an "ask" dialog on "Empty trash" is a reminder that "ask" is an option; while "Empty trash..." has no such subliminal connotation. Removing ellipses on such menu items would be less prone to accidental results -- no other change(s) required.
I understood your point, but you seemingly had forgotten that you had chosen not to see the dialogue that the ellipsis indicate.
Yup... forgot a setting which was set 20+ years ago... my bad.
