In Thunderbird, you can set the sound which will be played once the email arrives.
Your optional plugin lack this option, this is a huge drawback in 2020.

Please consider this option.

Go to /Configuration/Preferences/Mail Handling/Receving, in the 'Run Command' frame use 'Command to execute' entry to play a sound.
