Currently only the aspell backend is utilized. Enchant supports more backends such as Zemberek for Turkish, Vokko for Finnish and Hunspell for Myspell format dictionaries. Please add support for Enchant's generalized spellchecking interface to utilize these different backends.

I think your problem may be related to enchant's USE flags.

Ah the check in Gentoo ebuild was later removed. Sorry for the alarm.
