All these messages have attachments...

This is a random bug that I've been seeing for some time. Was running 3.10.1-154-gecb594 where I noticed several messages without the icon, so I updated to 3.11.0-5-gae9762 and the bug persists.
In the attached screenshot, all messages have attachments (photos from my security cameras); but about 1/2 don't show the icon unless I click to view the message, at which time the icon displays.

In case it matters, I have "Mark message as read when selected, after [ 1] seconds" -- so the sequence is:
- click on message; icon appears
- 1 second later, new message icon hides
[Pointing this out to be clear about timing.]

Funny that you should mention that now, as it's been this way for many years, and I know that you have been using Claws for almost as many years, and it's a design decision rather than a bug. The reason is for speed improvements if messages aren't scanned. However, if the messages are filtered, they will be scanned and display any attachments icons 'immediately'.

Not true, or at least it did not work as expected - see attached snapshot where some messages don't show the attachment icon.

All messages from the that folder are filtered (moved to it, based on To: field).

IIRC, the filter must include a full body search.
Comment 5 Cristian Secară 2018-02-15 17:18:52 UTC
If so, then why some messages *do* show the attachment icon ? There is no difference between messages in my previously snapshot example – neither in their content, nor in the filtering action that affects them.

I don't experience this problem, ever. Trying running with --debug to get some hints to narrow it down.
Comment 7 George 2018-02-15 17:51:41 UTC
Please note that in my bug report (3964) I noticed that in INBOX the icons seem to show correctly (as expected). They don't show in other Gmail folders though. Not sure if this is helpful in any way.
Comment 8 Cristian Secară 2018-02-15 19:07:46 UTC
In case this makes any difference – my previously attached snapshot (id=1845) is from a POP account (retrieved & filtered locally on my PC).

I am testing with a Gmail account without synchronizing folders for offline use.

missing attachment icons

I am experiencing this with version 3.16.0git241 when testing with locally downloaded messages. Clicking on the message does not make the attachment icon appear.

Testing with messages sent to myself, here is a screenshot which shows what I see:

In black are the messages sent by CM.
In red are the messages received by CM.

(obviously there is a sorting issue too but I will file this in a separate bug)

For both the attachment is:

Content-Type: text/plain
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

The only difference between the 2 tests is the attachment size:

test 1: 7 bytes
test 2: 3100 bytes

Clicking on any of these 4 messages changes nothing in regards to the attachment icon.

Just want to mention that I'm experiencing this issue, too, with claws-mail 4.0.0, as George has described: Clicking on the message does not make the attachment icon appear.
