Hi,

I'm running a courier-imap server with support for FAM and the IDLE extension. I
noticed that Sylpheed-Claws does not seem to make any use of this extension.
Would any of the developers consider adding this feature at some point as it
seems quite useful - particularly in so far as it allows for immediate
notification of new mail (without polling) as well as other changes to the mail
folders.

It will not be easy to do this, because as far as i know, IMAP does not check
for server messages when it does not send a command itself. Can you give some
information on this extension? The best probably would be an RFC.

Thanks for the prompt reply. The IDLE functionality is fully described by RFC
2177 I believe. I'm running the new courier-imap and Outlook Express works
like a charm with the IDLE functionality. Unfortunately, most Unix clients do
not including Kmail and Mozilla.

For some very useful info see: http://www.courier-mta.org/imapd.html

I tried the example given using several concurrent telnet sessions on the IMAP
port. It does seem relatively simple.

maybe it'll happen when moving imap to libetpan.
