Having just installed claws-mail in my N810, reading this post from the RSS plugin, I am impressed by Claws Mail. It definitely runs better than the default mail client that comes with Nokia's Diablo. Even in this small form factor, comparing Claws mail to, say Evolution or Thunderbird is like comparing mutt to pine.

I did try to install claws mail on my Linux Mint livecd, and it works. I may make the switch, or I might not. I'm still partial to Evolution. There are still some improvements I'd like to see, for example, on a big mailbox over IMAP with about 3000 messages, even after loading the mail list, clicking on Sent folder to INBOX again takes about 17 seconds before displaying the list of messages. This, on a very fast system, yet on my N810, it actually took 12 seconds. Not sure what I've done wrong, but on my linux mint machine, all I did was install, and configured claws mail to point to my mailbox.

I'm used to Evolution's immediate message list display in this case.

Anyway, it's a keepers for the N810 for sure :)

I completely agree with you! I use Claws as my only mail client as a network admin at a major university. The GPG integration is simple and MUCH easier than Evolution (Thunderbird only does it with a PLUGIN called Enigmail).

I was also confused by their lack of love for the addressbook and COMPLETE neglect for LDAP. Claws has by far the quickest LDAP autocompletion I've ever seen, especially when compared to the buggy and bloated KMail.

Finally, I think a real e-mail client review would mention the fact that Claws (through plugins) allows you to block HTML by default, but display it with an easy button on-demand when I choose. I have yet to find any other e-mail client that does it as elegantly or accurately as Claws!!

I absolutely agree with you. My choice is mutt and they don't even mention it but, as you put it clear, everything he "explains" in the review is lame and biased

Cheers,

Seraphyn, thanks for your comments. I have emailed the editor at Linux Magazine, telling him of my post but, as yet, have not received a reply.

Thanks, for this post. I read the Article till the PDF-Link comes up, than i read the PDF, shake a lot of times my head and the i go on to read your post. I don't know what his problem is, but it isn't correct journalism what he've done. In Germany we got for not so handy users Linux Beginners, for normal Users Easy Linux and for Administrators/Professional Linux Magazin. I hope that they won't translate this one into german in one of these magazins, because this article isn't correct in any case and give the users more a distance to Claws Mail, than bring up to users to test it. A Journalist should work with a programm and not take a small look at it without any interest of.
Greetings and Thanks for Claws Mail, keep up the good work

I also think that processing/filtering (and even more pre-processing / post-processing) is confusing even though I am the person who introduced processing...
The feature is nice but we could think of a better way to present it.
