Sylpheed-Claws 1.9.12 and 1.0.5 Unleashed!!

Monday, June 27th, 2005

Today I did the releases of both the gtk1 (1.0.5) and gtk2 (1.9.12) versions of Sylpheed-Claws. The 1.9.12 release I tagged 'the "Welcome Back IMAP" release', as Colin has really brought the IMAP support back under control and whipped it into shape. He also produced a plethora of bug fixes, so much so, that you might have called it the Sylpheed-Colino release!

Anyway, the releases took some time to put together, (as so much has changed, (meaning that the release notes take that much longer to compile)), but the process was speeded up a little towards the end by my use of ReleaseForge, (an alternative to the SourceForge File Release System (FRS)). I didn't use its full power, (and, besides, it failed for the 1.9.12 release due to some bad character malarkey in the ChangeLog, (a problem that I didn't even take a note about, so close was I to the goal at the time, that I couldn't delay any longer to (try to) resolve problems), but it worked for 1.0.5), and I just used it to complete the SourceForge file release page, (which is great in itself, as (having 6 files per release) I avoided having to update the page (almost) countless times). I will trial the SF news submission next time around. Incidently, I couldn't trial the Freshmeat announcement feature, as it wouldn't accept my username or password, so I did that in the regular fashion. Still, I think this will prove useful, and I'll continue to use it.

I started the arduous task of HTML::Template-ising the Atlas Press code. This is just the first step towards more contrived rewrites and new code, not least an Admin Interface so that I can give up some administration duties.

..and now for some more.

"The daWB must have slack" and a little boogie woogie with that is just the tonic: Freddie Slack, "House of Blue Lights" (streaming audio).

Also of note in the Mosaic Select series, Grachan Moncur III, "Hipnosis" (streaming audio).

If I had one of those amazonian want lists, these 2 would probably be on it.

The Stones Throw website has announced a Madlib and Melvin Van Peebles project, Brer Soul Meets Quasimoto, that should be hot!

The obligatory first entry

Sunday, June 19th, 2005

Finally, yesterday, my blogging curiosity came to the front for a while and I did a local installation of wordpress to whet my appetite. And, after wandering through the plugins database, browsing the themes, and several small customisations, (mainly changes to the default theme, and playing around with the sidebar content), it was time to go live.

… and so here we are.

Time will tell whether I will make use of this thing or consider it a waste of time which could be spent doing more interesting things. At least for the moment my interest is alive.
