Description Ray Kiddy 2015-11-25 00:31:27 UTC
Is there a preference for this or something? Please?

I sometimes leave messages in my inbox unread. Say that I have 100 unread messages (# 1 - 100). If I fetch e-mail and it fetches 5 more, I want the selected message to be the first of the five messages I just received. Instead it navigates to the oldest unread message. In other words, it goes all the way back to number 1 of 105. I want it to select message # 101.

This is a major navigation fail. I have my reasons for leaving those messages unread and I would really appreciate it if claws worked with me on this and did not punish me for it. :-)

Take a look at "Set default selection when entering a folder" button in preferences, Display->Summaries page.

Next time, please use our mailing list for similar questions. Bugzilla is for reporting bugs, not asking how to do something.

I am sorry, but "Display->Summaries" did not strike me as being relevant for this issue. I thought "Mail Handling -> Receiving" was more relevant. I have been using e-mail for a long time and it has never occurred to me to call the message list a "summary list".

And the "Set default selection when entering a folder" does not seem right, either, even when you say that that is the option, and even when it works. I mean, I am not actually entering a folder. I am already in the folder. New mail is entering the folder. So....

I will, next time, ask the mailing list. But these options are sufficiently mis-labeled that I would call this a bug. There should be an option in 'Mail Handling -> Receiving':

Selection upon receiving mail:

   ( ) Leave selection unchanged

( ) Select newly received mail message

Again, I am not entering a folder, so the preference you describe does not make sense. Yes, that might be what the implementation suggests, but users are not reading the code base.
