I tried to understand how should I use my certificate with claws mail. I followed the howto, but all i get is just pgp-signatures working. I doubt the howto is still actual, and i can't find a different place to discuss it. First problem: user@vlad:~/.gnupg$ gpgsm --import ~/vlad_1.p12 gpgsm: gpgsm: GPG_TTY has not been set - using maybe bogus default gpgsm: gpg-protect-tool: 2664 bytes of RC2 encrypted text gpgsm: gpg-protect-tool: processing certBag gpgsm: gpg-protect-tool: processing certBag gpgsm: gpg-protect-tool: 1224 bytes of 3DES encrypted text gpgsm: gpg-protect-tool: keygrip: 2CC378A3E98A74163F1B4ECFECFC35556ADAE3CF gpgsm: gpg-protect-tool: secret key stored as `/home/user/.gnupg/private-keys-v1.d/2CC378A3E98A74163F1B4ECFECFC35556ADAE3CF.key' gpgsm: total number processed: 3 gpgsm: unchanged: 2 gpgsm: secret keys read: 1 gpgsm: secret keys imported: 1 user@vlad:~/.gnupg$ gpgsm -K /home/user/.gnupg/pubring.kbx -------------------------------- private key is not shown certificate chain: (gpgsm -k output) ID: 0x48CDBB0B S/N: 06 Issuer: /CN=\xff/O=\xff/L=\xff/C=RU/EMail=office@#### Subject: /CN=\xff/O=\xff/L=\xff/C=RU/EMail=vlad@#### validity: 2010-10-28 00:00:00 through 2013-10-26 23:59:59 key type: 2048 bit RSA fingerprint: B1:6F:83:6D:47:B6:1B:FB:9F:C7:8A:A8:8F:0E:4C:ED:48:CD:BB:0B ID: 0xC3931B7E S/N: 01 Issuer: /CN=\xff/O=\xff/L=\xff/C=RU/EMail=office@#### Subject: /CN=\xff/O=\xff/L=\xff/C=RU/EMail=office@#### validity: 2010-10-28 00:00:00 through 9999-12-31 23:59:59 key type: 2048 bit RSA key usage: certSign crlSign chain length: 0 fingerprint: 4F:85:59:A6:65:6F:9A:8E:DF:A7:AB:B3:E3:51:74:64:C3:93:1B:7E
it is of course unable to sign anything, (S/MIME : Cannot sign, General error (1))
but also it does not check existing signature (Error checking signature: General Assuan error) how should be gpg-agent and gpgsm connected? the is no word about it in the howto
correction: if i check existing signature before trying to sign a new letter, it is checked correctly. But if I get once a general error (trying to sign), i get it everywhere else. gpg/mime always signed and checked correctly

Except this *used* to work until I upgraded from Ubuntu 11.04 to 11.10. Now it fails miserably. :/
