Bug 757

Summary: Deleting Folders Permanently Deletes Messages Within
Product: Claws Mail (GTK 2) Reporter: Abhay S. Kushwaha <clawsmail>
Component: FoldersAssignee: users
Status: REOPENED ---
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P3
Version: 3.13.0
Hardware: PC
OS: All

Description Abhay S. Kushwaha 2005-06-21 08:12:30 UTC
Observed behaviour:
===================
If a user deletes a folder from the folder-tree, the folder and
all its sub-folders along with messages are simply wiped off,
with no scope for undeleting them.

Desired behaviour:
===================
If user deletes a folder from the folder-tree, it and all its sub
folders should be moved to the Trash folder from where it can be
moved back into the folder-tree if a user wants to undo the action.

If that is not possible, at least all messages within the folder
and any sub-folders should be moved to the Trash folder.

Quoting the alertpanel that pops up when you delete a folder:

All folders and messages under `$folder' will be deleted.
Do you really want to delete?
[yes] [NO]

I wanted to re-open the discussion on this.

My original request was that if you delete a message, it goes to Trash folder, but the same does not happen for folders and messages within.

My request is that just like a message which is moved to Trash on deletion, the folder and its messages should be moved as-is under Trash.

Please do not confuse my use of "deletion" above to refer to permanent deletion where messages are deleted directly. I am essentially referring to "Move to Trash" aspect of "Delete" feature.

Current dialog already says recovery will not be possible, but it's still a valid enhancement request, so reassigning to Claws Mail product.
