All claws-mail gentoo ebuilds have imap enabled by default: 
http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/mail-client/claws-mail/

Therefore the imap support warning in http://www.claws-mail.org/downloads.php?section=downloads seems to no longer apply.
