Bug 2983

Summary: Coloration of message text
Product: Claws Mail (GTK 2) Reporter: Gerard Seibert <gerard.seibert>
Component: UI/Message ViewAssignee: users
Status: RESOLVED WONTFIX
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Version: 3.9.2
Hardware: PC
OS: FreeBSD

Description Gerard Seibert 2013-07-25 13:27:37 UTC
System Information
GTK+ 2.24.19 / GLib 2.34.3
Locale: C (charset: US-ASCII)
Operating System: FreeBSD 8.3-STABLE (amd64)

Under <TOOLS> <PREFERENCES> <DISPLAY> <COLORS> <OTHER> I have enabled coloration of message text. It works, but not in a fashion that I would expect.

For instance, lines beginning with ">> " sans quotation marks are properly colored. However, lines that begin like this actual example: "====>> Building net/l2tpd" again sans quotation marks is similarly colored. That is just plain wrong. Only lines beginning with ">" marks, or what ever the indicator mark is set to should be affected.

Hi,

This is done so that the "named" quotation style works, like

CL>> Something said by Colin Leroy
CL>>
GS> Something replied by Gerard Seibert
GS>

We feel the advantages of this outweigh the drawback you describe :)

I respectfully disagree. I believe that claws-mail should respect the traditional Internet-style quoting consists of putting a > or multiple > as the correct way to indicate "Reply level indication".

Would it be possible to have this either made the default behavior or have an option to make it the default behavior. I know that there are some egocentrics that probably use this technique; however, I don't receive email from any of them and therefore have no need for this behavior.
