Description Dimitris 2013-05-12 21:07:51 UTC
Sorry if this has been discussed before.

When retrieving or sending mail, the whole application freezes and I have to wait for the send/resieve to end before I can work on the rest of my emails.

This is especially painful, when I'm using an internet connection with an IP address without a reverse DNS (the IP does not reverse to a domain), thus the remote POP3/IMAP/SMTP server will take up to a minute before it allows the connection to be established (because its reverse lookup will wait till it times out).

I've been a user of claws-mail (and previously sylpheed-claws), and the send/receive was always a thing that has carried over for years (decades? ok maybe exagerating), but it seems nobody was interested to make it multi-threaded.

I'd appreciate your comments on this issue.

Thank you.

I have this too BUT the freeze is permanent. It seems to download all the mails the stops reacting with 100% CPU usage.

Happens every time even with a new installation.

This issue is a particular bummer when sending via a server that has a slow response (e.g., for work I need to use office365.com for some outbound emails). Claws-mail becomes unusuable for 5-10 sec while the 'Sending message' popup window appears. This isn't fun if one has a big stack of emails that need to be dealt with in an efficient manner...

In Preferences-> Sending. Make sure 'Show send dialog' is not checked.

The same behaviour locks up Claws Mail if it's set to check for new mail on start-up. I have over 30 RSS feeds in addition to e-mail, which translates to unresponsiveness for a rather long time after Claws has started.

The program goes through the folders one-by-one without threading and the UI can't be used simultaneously. These two things compound each other. If one of the two was alleviated, the other one wouldn't be such a big deal. It's the only thing that I miss in an otherwise very well-made client.

More precisely.. the folder list and message view lock up. You can still use the menu bar etc.
