Google Contacts can now be accessed with CardDav. http://gmailblog.blogspot.com/2012/09/a-new-way-to-sync-google-contacts.html Support for CardDAV is implemented in the new address book. Is it? As far as I know only support for vCard is implemented. CardDAV is a protocol which uses vCard. You can download your contacts from your server in vCard format and then import it, but there is no real CardDAV support which would allow synchronization. CardDAV would be a very nice enhancement indeed, especially now that creating a CardDAV server is very easy with OwnCloud. Roundcube now supports CardDAV and there is an Android app which integrates it as well; having it on a native desktop program like Claws Mail would complete the picture. Hello, It would indeed be a great feature — another use may be with ownCloud, when we have contacts synced to it as "central service" (roundcube seems to be able to copy them locally, android can do it as well as Thunderbird [not tested, but there are things])… such a plugin would change my life, really :). Is anyone working on this? Hello, I'm using Baikal as a CardDAV server and I also would love being able to use it with Claws Mail... I'm using Owncloud. It is very useful to connect my carddav to my mail manager! Thx. Hiya, I did spend some time in #claws some time ago and learn that current Claws devs are not interested for this feature, but, unfortunately, it was the reason to leave Claws-mail after beeing its user for very long time. Moreover, migration from Claws to Evolution is tying me to GNOME (Linux) without much choice. :-( That's all due to the desire to be able to sync our (me & my wife) contacts and calendars with out Android phones via instance of ownCloud server which is, I believe, a modest request in 2015 after using Linux since '99. I was trying to use khal/khard cli apps which work very well with vdirsyncer and e.g. can khard can be used as mutt's address book, but the problem is that Claws does lack support to, at least, import/export *.vcf (vCard) and/or.ics files which would be, imho, much more useful than fiddling with LDAP. In any case, if more people shows interest for it and/or someone with the skills becomes enthusiastic to implement CalDAV/CardDAV support in Claws, it would greatly enhance the functionality of Claws and I'm sure I'd gladly return back. At the moment, I've to tolerate less-powerful mailer due to having more 'groupware' features, although i nrecent years with the advent of Baikal/Radicale/ownCloud and mobile phones, ability to sync one's contacts/calendars is simply a 'must' feature for common users and not some extravagancy useful only for corporate/enterprise users. A frequent misjudgement, confusing having no personal interest in the feature with having no interest in seeing the feature in Claws Mail. I'll keep this short... > A frequent misjudgement, confusing having no personal interest in the feature > with having no interest in seeing the feature in Claws Mail.
Well, in open-source projects where devs are not paid to implement some features, they write those which they want/need/like which I understand.
The fact is that this issue still has, after >3.5yrs status 'NEW', shows it is of no personal interest for the current core Claws-mail devs which certainly does not imply they would not accept 'patches' if provided by someone else.
However, for me, as end user, it does not make the difference and the fact remains the same - the feature is not present and it's neither assigned to someone nor scheduled for some future release.
Hello, I did submit issue (https://github.com/untitaker/vdirsyncer/issues/314) to the author of vdirsyncer who is very helpful in this regard and proposed possible workaround which could work, but without possibility to edit contacts within Claws, but using e.g. khard (https://github.com/scheibler/khard/). He confirms that it works - see #314 comments - but, I have to re-create my old Claws setup to test and confirm. Sincerely, Gour |
