Description Joe 2010-11-21 22:52:00 UTC
With message view turned off and a message open, using Shift-n to open the next unread message does open it in the separate window, but also re-enables message view.

I'm facing the same problem here.

Shift-n does open in the message view by default and not in a new window. ctrl-alt-n does open it in a new window. do you mean that?
Comment 3 Flavio Leitner 2011-07-05 18:54:50 UTC
yeah, 'shift-n' makes the message view appears again and doesn't open in a separate window regardless of the option set in Preferences/Display/Summaries/Open Message when selected/

Well, 'ctrl-alt-n' does nothing here.

The option doesn't say to open the message in a new window but just to open it. shift-n does only show in the message view. Can you check if you have the same shortcut for View>Open in new window? It seems like that..
about ctrl-alt-n I guess it's my custom shortcut :)

Yes, the problem is that I want to go to the 'next unread message' and read in a way that I had configured. If the message view is visible, then it's okay to open there, otherwise it seems reasonable to open in a new window.

It works, but then I have to use shift+n to go to the next unread message and then ctrl+enter to open in a new window. The result is that message view will appear again and I have to use two shortcuts instead of one.

makes sense :)

Yes I can understand how do you mean now. Have you tried the Small Layout?
Comment 7 Flavio Leitner 2011-07-09 23:03:48 UTC
Small layout works. It opens the e-mail in a new window and I can't see the message view. However, I can't see the folder list as well.

As a work around, I'm using 'Wide message' layout and then shrinking the message view to a minimum space, so I can see the folder list and message list while the message view is "hidden".
