If there is no active Internet connection available Claws Mail will either report an error that the IMAP server could not be reached (when an IMAP account is configured) or provide a notification of "Unable to connect: You are offline".

It would be more useful, in my opinion (possibly as an option) to have Claws Mail instead request an Internet connection from the connection daemon. This way, if an automatic connection is available the connection is made and the mail synchronization occurs without further user involvement.

This would also be helpful when Claws Mail is configured to automatically check for new mail every X minutes and you have and idle timeout set on your Internet connections. So you could still leave Claws Mail open and automatically connecting to an available Internet connection to check for new mail, but also have the connection timeout from idleness to save battery life.

The particular use case I'm thinking of is when I'm home or at a friend's house with a preferred wireless network available, or out-and-about with a tethered phone. This would allow my n810 to remain nicely synchronized without me needing to manually connect to available connections.
